New decking recommendations

The wood is solid on my boat decking, but the carpet on the other hand is not. My question is: is it ok to use the sea deck foam over wood? What do you all recommend? I just want something that'll last for the amount of fishing/ skiing and wet kids running across it.

I would check with Sea Dek before purchasing it. I know it expensive and once it ;s down on fiberglass a bear to remove. Is your deck coated with anything or straight up plywood ? You may be better off treating it ,again ? Then replacing it with marine carpet again. Google each mfg and look at the search results for people's feedback on each product that is out there and there is a lot. Depending on the size of your deck you could be looking at 1,000 and up for Sea Dek

It's just plywood, and honestly I don't think it was treated before the carpet was laid. I owned this boat for about 5 years and the carpet was replaced before I bought it by the previous owner. Obviously he chose to go with the cheapest cheap he could find, because it didn't last long. I was thinking on the fishing deck that sea deck or something similar would look pretty cool and would last. This is on a 1998 Fisher Fredoom 200 deck boat

After looking into it and researching different applications. I think my wife and I decided to go with the rubberized tuff coat. This way I'll get it printed and sealed good and if we decide we want carpet or sea dek after we can do that. Eventually, I'm going to do the whole thing. Right now I'm just going to do the fishing platform. I really want to do a total restore but I'll have to do it in some stages... finds willing!!

I will be interested in hearing how this holds up. I applied a similar product, Durabak, to my boat floor, and it has not proved very durable at all. There are holes that have worn through it, it is very hard to keep even somewhat clean, and it is easily damaged.

I've seen the rubber stuff before - not in MY boat! IMHO, Marideck or Nautolex is the ONLY option for an older boat. The former is OEM on Starcrafts, Alumacrafts and most fishing type boats. Our last boat had it and after 35 years it still looked like new.

SeaDek would look lousy in a resto. It's not continuous like carpet, thus the substrate would show around the edges. Also, it would probably cost more than the boat.

Before you put any coating down, be sure adhesive will stick to it if your goal is to cover it later.

Yeah, if I could have a do-over, I’d never use that Durabak junk.

If I offended I'm sorry. But you didn't tell us what kind of boat you have, so I can't estimate the value.

If you are doing a restoration my assumption was its an older boat.

At any rate, I put SeaDek in my boat last year. Its truly awesome stuff, though I wouldn't use it in a fishing boat. Regardless, it cost me $2400 for a 19 footer.

My fishing boat has a fiberglass inner liner and I chose not to have carpet or any covering. Its nearly maintenance free.
