Hello gents, I need to redeck my 73 starcraft aluminum boat and I was wondering if there is an alternitive to marine ply. are there any composit materials that would do the same job, weigh less and maybe cost less. I'm looking for alternitves, good marine ply really pinches on a tight budget. Thank you in advance.

I would use standard 1/2" AC plywood from the lumber yard. Cheapest and easiest to get. Resin it completely and it will last forever. I have used the treated plywood but if you resin both sides, the termite-water treatment is unnessary.

Arlan

even if u use marine ply u should seal it with epoxy resin. polyester just don't hold up. that's what the boat makers use & thats why boat owners are always replacing floors/stringers. they cut corners & we end up paying for it in the long run. it's about time these boat manufacturers started looking out for the consumer.
