My tinkering may have found something to pop up pontoons on top of the water. I just installed these cones 23" to 29" on the rear of the pontoons. Why, because I screwed up and did not pay more attention to distributing the weight properly. image.jpg image.jpg
After putting the now 38' ENJOY back in the water, I cautiously gave her some gas. The little 135 begin moving smoothly. I put it to the floor and the enjoy started moving pretty good and I felt a lift of the stern. I went back and look to see this mountain of wake behind me. I went the bow and the extended third was riding level. I thought the shape of the cone would create lift but nothing like this. What would this do for a normal pontoon? I don't know but I would guess it would take a nose dive without a extended 3rd. I think the extended 3rd helps the ride also and control.

I will do that. I have done some talking to a designers and they say I have created a big trim tab. The pontoon will not nose dive but will squat and lift. I was watching a guy trying to unload yesterday with this big motor on the back. The water was over the pontoon and would not come off the trailer. These manufacture build tissue paper aluminum pontoons and put these huge motors on them . These extension are 3/16 . You could add to existing pontoon but I am going to build a 25' and show these manufactures how to build something that will last. That is solid and will take the biggest motors without problems. The extend front cuts the water and the cone stern will give pontoons performance never seen before.

Aquadynamics are really funny, you may have found something that works really well on your boat the way it is set up but if you were to try that on a normal 22' or 25' toon it would nose dive or not turn or not be stable, I have seen numerous times adding or subtracting as little as a foot of chine on a particular boat make a huge difference.

I would like to see some pics of the cones you have on it.

FYI: 5150ABF works for one of the major boat manufacturers, and he really knows his toons.

I always thought that if something is not broken, don't fix it. A properly equipped tritoon will handle those big motors without the rear ends sinking too deep at rest. And they perform just fine.

Hey Bama, we ran 40 last Wednesday, we are normally doing 38 but hit a nice model mix and decided to see if we could do 40 and we pulled it off.

Every time I hear how bad the economy is I just scratch my head, it can't be that bad if we are building that many boats.

Lucky, have you ever seen the deployable pontoons Abraham Lincoln invented for river boats? They never made it into production but he did patent them and build a scale model. Google it if you haven't seen them. Right up your alley.

In my pilot days, i would add 10% flaps and come in fast. It would bring the nose up some. The same would apply for water air. IMO my common sense would say with the nose of the tri toon 4' in front of the two side toons , shouldn't be that big of problem with nosing down . The turn radius is much shorter. This is now a 38' and there is no telling what would happen on a 25' but my gut says the performance would be greatly improved. Maybe building one will go on my bucket list. I will get some videos on wave action and under the boat. I am still Working on this project. Your right, a little can make a big difference.

For running a ground, he thought out of the box, didn't he

My 92 Riviera Cruiser 24' came with end cones on the rear of the pontoons from the factory. I always thought they looked dated because none of the other manufactures today have them....never really had that boat on the water so i really can't talk to how they preformed....interesting design though...linda like a torpedo (facing the wrong direction)

I guess Abe was just doing like they do when they raise barges. They inflate air bags to float them up. I would think it would be pretty hard to inflate air bags that are attached under a ship though. Considering the air compressors they had in those days and the fact that most of the boats were paddle wheels. Lets see you are inflating air bags under a heavy boat that is in shallow water. If it lifts the boat wouldn't it just sit on the air bags?
