I have a relatively new (10hrs) 1 1/2 years old Mariner ELPTO.
We have been moving around and living in units (small apartments) so I have not had much time or opportunity to run it. I have, however kept the fuel relatively fresh and added conditioner. Tried to run it yesterday, and it ran like a dog. with white smoke EVERYWHERE. I had to shut it down due to whinging by the inmates (other residents). Any clues why ? Last time I started it was about 1 month ago, but has not been for a good run for 4 months. Plugs looked pretty oily. Perhaps the oil injector just rammed the carbs full of oil or maybe just fuel evaporatoin leaving residue.
Any clues ???

Re: New ELPTO running rough.

Problem solved.

No problem .. really If you run these motors for 5 minutes every 4 weeks and keep the fuel fresh, all you get is a lot of 2 stroke oil build up in the crankcase and carbs. Took it to the boat ramp and started it in the water and kept hitting the choke until it ran by itself and all the smoke burned off. Ran nicely after that.
Moral is.. If you have a boat.. use it regularly or sell it.
