Does anyone have a way to mark the front mercruiser mounts on 305 crownline 196? I am ready to put the engine back in after my total rebuild and was thinking there must be an easier way than put it in without y pipe to mark holes then do it all over again with the y pipe. Every time I lug that engine over the boat with my front loader it makes me a nervous wreck.

Install y-pipe, install motor, align motor, adjust mounts, mark location....then remove motor, drill holes, reinstall motor, bolt down motor, realign motor, install drive

Why install y pipe? I didn't do it when I marked my front mounts...

It's a shame there's really nowhere to rent jigs for aligning the holes before dropping in the motor.

Good point! they must exist somewhere... I really doubt this is what factories do lol. They must have jigs.

factories make jigs/fixtures, however for the first time they rig a hull, they start at the transom like we all do.

I have been in many boats where the lags are shot in at angles because they didnt use a jig, just drop-in, align and fire in lags with a burb-gun
