A new engine was put in my boat over the winter.
What is the break-in time for V6 Mercruiser
4.3 Engine? How should I break in and does
the oil need to be changed after break-in?

Re: New Engine

If the cam is New, Pull the coil wire,+ crank for 45 seconds to a minute... Start it on muffs,+ immediately rev to 1800/ 2000rpms, for atleast 1 minute... Return to idle,+ check + adjust the carb, timing, etc....
Now you're ready to start boating... The in-water break-in Should consist of 20hrs of near constant throttle changes.... Not to long at idle.. Very little time at WOT, although a little WOT will help you dial-in the prop, while you break-in...
Your 20hrs service Should change the oil, check All other fluids, Check for good color on the plugs, check the timing + carb adjustments...
At this point, You're ready to run this motor another 1500hrs, with service at every 50hrs(for me) to 100hrs(for people who think gas is the Only required fluid)......

Good Luck...

Yep, all that but I'd break the cam in for a little longer... say... on the initial start-up run it at 1800 to 2000 rpm for at least 15 minutes.
