new exaust gaskets are different HELP!!

I have a force 120 L-drive doing a overhaul the new gasket kit came with 3 new exaust gaskets with all alligning holes for the water ports. the old gaskets had two fiber gaskets and one stainless steel gasket between the two fiber gaskets. the old stainless steel gasket blocked most of the water ports. while the new gasket all three fiber leaves all the water ports open .. whats going on here. do i discard the stainless steel gasket for the fiber gasket or what????

Do you have pictures? The L-Drive exhaust cover is unique, but I believe you re-use the stainless steel baffle with new gaskets.

This may seem like an obvious stupid question, but is there a way the gaskets can be flipped over and were mabie installed backward?
