Went and winterized for the winter and saw the exhaust was leaking through the plugs on the bottom of the manifold. Planning on replacing the manifold and risers. The boat is an '01 used in saltwater so it is time.

What are you guys replacing with? OEM, steel cast or aluminum cast. what is the best out there, or what MFG do I need to stay away from?

Thanks for the help,
Shep

5.0 what???

Merc or Volvo Penta?

I am personally a big fan of OEM manifolds and risers. I never here of stories of them giving any problems, but I always hear a couple of bad ones with some aftermarket "elcheapo" ones. Yes there are a couple of parts that you can skimp on, but when it comes to risers and manifolds I pay the price. I am sure others will chime in pretty quick...

How old is it?

If the manifolds and risers are rusting thru, I wonder what the block and intake manifold looks like?

Ayuh,... At least We can Assume it's a Chevy,... 95 or so was It for the 5.0l Fords...

I hear the Merc. "Dry Joint" manifolds are the state of the art...
Stay away from Anything Aluminum,+ stay away from GLMs...
Aluminum,+ saltwater don't mix,+ I have personal experince with the scrap sold from GLM...

Osco,+ Barr are of decent Quality, if you don't wanta go OEM...

OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer.

Not a brand.

No way!!! I thought it stood for Ollies Engine Manifolds.:D

I'm pretty sure that everyone that has replied to this thread and even the threads creator understands what OEM stands for...

Thanks for the replies. It is a Merc. It is not the manifold rusting through, there is a plug on the bottom that seeps water. Guess the general consensus is OEM.

Why cant you back out the plug, clean it up and put some sort of thread sealer on it?

Because the manifolds are more than 8 years old used in salt water. They should have been replaced awhile ago. Its just time...
