I am ready to get a new Yamaha 4 stroke for my 18' pontoon boat. I would like to know if the lower unit on the new 70hp 4 stroke is the same as the high thrust lower unit on the T60. My dealer swears they are the same. From the specs I see that they are identical in cubic inches and identical in gear ratio.

Thanks for a response

Re: New F70 4 stroke or T60 4 stroke?

should be the same, or close enough to the same. The T60 uses the F75 13"+ props. The F70 is a new size for yamaha based on the F50-60 engine block with a bit more RPM added. Personally for a pontoon boat I would choose either the T60 or the F75 for pontoon duty, the F75 does weigh 100# more but you are gaining almost 60% more engine displacement. Also its a 75hp engine thats a derated 90hp instead of a 70hp based on a 60hp engine. Bigger alternator also if you use alot of juice.
