New Floor Coverings

I`m thinking seriously about adding new floor coverings and padded swim platform to my Chap before this boating season. I have decided to go with the foam rubber matting rather than traditional carpet. I have reviewed the Sea Dek products and those by Hydro turf. Are there any other similar vendors that make a similar product besides these two that I need to consider also?

You said "adding new floor coverings". Are you replacing previous coverings or will these, in fact, be an addition to the bare deck. I ask for this reason: I previously had a small runabout with removeable carpet pads that eventually wore out so I removed them altogether. Life was so much simpler with not having to put them in, take them out, not to mention making washdown easier by not having to scrub the carpets. Just offering a perspective! Richard

Re: New Floor Coverings

I personally hate carpet on my boat. Had the rubber backed, snap down carpets, but rarely used then (only when I wanted to impress guests). When they get wet, they stay wet a long time.

More to the OP's question, moisture stayed trapped between the carpet and the deck and the backing would deteriorate (yet all the manufacturers still use them). The point is, products like Sea Deck seem like a good idea, as long as you get them stuck down well enough so water does not get under them. I am planning on using Sea Deck on my project boat, so I will be interested in hearing about what you find and you experience with it.

BTW, there are some paintable products as well. Sorry, I don't know their names at the moment.

Currently I have just hard floors, no carpet has ever been installed. I like the hard floors except for the fact that they are a little hard on the heels after several days. Thought the rubber "mat" type products would give a little more cushion and would not hold moisture and can still just be hosed off when it comes to cleaning time.

The rubber mats will need to be removed everyday to prevent mold from growing.
