No. 1500 is pretty light. Just check your maintenance schedule....I believe you need to have the Ford automatics serviced every 30000 miles.

Bob

I would put one on if I were towing anything with an automatic. the more heat you can disapate the better.

No, I don't think you NEED a tranny cooler, but I would put one on anyway. Extra insurance against very expensive breakdown.

You don't need a cooler with that small load. Chief ;)

There is a very simple and cheap kit available to do just what you want. It will cost about $13-15.

Re: NEW FORD PICK UP

Hi,

I have had some experience with automatic transmissions. 13 years as a Ford certified master automatic transmission technician. It has been my experience that coolers have a tendency to lower transmission temperatures there is two negatives. 1. Improperly installed, can cause a leak and transmission failure. 2. On newer vehicles with pcm (power train control module) controlled shifting if the transmission never reaches operation temperature it can have a negative affect fuel mileage. For pulling a trailer I have found that it is best to leave the vehicle out of overdrive when pulling any considerable load. The ideal is to prevent the transmission from shifting from one gear to another, locking and unlocking the torque converter, and creating heat.

If you service your own transmission don’t forget to drain the torque converter!

Respectfully, bowhunter2

I'm with Chief on this one. Too small of a load to worrey about. The truck won't even know it's there. 100-150 pounds on the hitch? (7 to 10 %)Not worth the worrey. As far as pulling the extra #1500 lbs of rolling weight ... most boat ramps are within 200 miles.. NP! JB is correct, but I tink it is over kill.
:)
