We are a boating family. I get a call last night from my dad. Tells me 'all the guys on the dock are having problems' It seems that many of the boats, new and old are having there engines lose power or just quit. The reason is that the gas filters and In-Engine screens are loading up with Varnish from the gas tanks. This new gas mixture is causing the varnish in the gas system to gel and flow into the filters and screens and gumming them up. It seems the Injected Yammy's are very suseptable to this. The in engine screen is like a two hour nightmare to disassemble and clean. Warranty doesn't cover it.
So just be aware if you have this symptom. Dad says that 30% of the folks at the dock have issues. That's a big number.

Sounds to me like Dad and some of his friends need to have a heart to heart with the owner of the marinas gas tanks. This is not normal for any brand of gas. The marina or his fuel supplier have got a problem and if enough people come together he could be made to rectify it, or at least prevent it from continuing.

what filter takes two hours> 45 min tops.
but itsw a problem I have seen before. sometimes a detergent change in the fuel will start breaking things loose. or it could be a gas supplier issue. either way I would check it out.

New gas of a different formula WILL definetly cause these problems. Nearly every Yamaha EFI owner I know in CT had this problem when they switched to Ethanol laden fuel (up to 10%), myself included.

In every case, the engine needed the VST filter replaced. It is not a hard job and I did it myself. The filter ain't cheap, but you will save on labor.

THanks to Rodbolt on this site who walked me through it too.

John
