New Gas Tank

I am looking at replacing my gas tank on my boat this weekend. It currently has a 5 gallon metal tank. I am thinking about using the 6 gallon plastic tank that Wal-Mart sells. I am also going to put a new fuel line and bulb on it.

My question is, I have a Chrysler motor, Walmart sells a male and a female fitting for the tank, but it says for Mercury. Does that matter since it is on the tank?

You can put whatever kind you want on the tank as long as it matches what's on your hose.

You defiantly can place what just about any connector on the tank. I have two motors that both use a 50:1 fuel/oil mix. But the motors have different connectors on the motor. I have one hose on a 50hp Mercury, that?s Mercury on both ends. I have another hose on a Mariner /Yamaha that?s Mariner to Mercury. I own three, 6 gallon tanks that I use on both motors. All tanks are fitted with Mercury connections. I also have a 3 gallon metal tank with the Marina/Yamaha connection hard mounted in. I?m planning to make a short adapter hose for that tank.

Just a suggestion, if you?re in it for the long haul. Spend a few extra bucks and buy metal connectors if you can get them. West Marine carries them. Boaters World by me did not. I had the plastic Mercury self destruct on me. Naturally it was 8:00pm on a Friday night and I only had one tank with me.

shake the tank and make sure there are no plastic pieces loose in it.
