i have a 89 skeeter that has moderate to bad oxidation on it. does anyone have any idea how much it would cost to get a new gel coat or how much it would cost to have it profesionally buffed out? Thanks for the responses.

Re: New Gel Coat?

JC - Buffing is sometimes charged by the foot for boats. My neighbor has a 30 foot cruiser with a red and white oxidized gel coat. It costs him $300 to have it buffed and waxed.

I would think gel coat would be hard/expensive to do. I had an automotive paint shop paint my speedboat with Awlgrip. I did all the prep work, sanded to 400 grit, etc. The shop only primed and painted the hull. It cost me $400 about five years ago. It was a good job.

Do as search on the subject and you'll find many guys have had good luck with wet sanding + buffing to bring back the shine. You can do it yourself for the cost of the paper and polish.

Hey JC. Check out my thread on getting a boat detailed. I wrote about what the detail guy told me regarding this.
