Welcome to the forum and congratulations on the new vessel. I've got a 12' Aerocraft and I just run a 30lb thrust electric Minn Kota. Your 6hp should push her very nicely:)

Let us know how the new rig works out once you get her wet and good luck to you!

thanks for the reply dude, yes i was seriously thinking about buying a 46lb thrust minn kota because here in california some lakes are getting rid of the 2 strokes luckily not my local lake, but for how long right? so i guess you can say i took a chance on buying it because i might have to get rid of it in the next year or so..so that trolling motor pushes your boat pretty good, with just yourself or 2 people? hey you think you can give me your email address and you can post of the pictures for me? and thanks for the welcome this website seems like its pretty active

2010 is when they are kicking 2 strokes out.

that boat with a 6hp will be perfect for fishing the bays

Why do you need a boat if you live in a desert?

funny :D, yeah i do live in the desert and it gets pretty hot up to 130 degrees but luckily im pretty close to the lakes about 1 hour away from them tops. i said the same thing so i decided to buy dirtbikes and a sandrail but this year i want to try something different so i started fishing and decided to get a boat as well..so fact of the matter is that i have one now and i just want to get it in the water your probably right, who knows maybe ill get tired of it and sell it

..so that trolling motor pushes your boat pretty good, with just yourself or 2 people?

I always roll out with 2 people, one big cooler with beer/ice, one large deep cycle battery(heavy), two tackle boxes and a portablefish finder that has its own battery and the 30lb pushes her pretty nicely.

Of course I'd rather have a 55lb thrust so I could zip around more quickly but I'm happy with the current setup. The battery I have will run that motor for about 24 hrs straight before it dies since I opted for the huge deep cycle.

I have an older 1.2hp Aquabug outboard that I'm working on getting running and I'm eyeing some used 8hp 2 strokes as well so I can take longer trips on the boat. 30lbs Minn Kota will run about $110 so pretty reasonable to go grab one if you want.

Also- don't talk about getting rid of your boat on this forum. You should keep it forever- aluminum boats last a really long time and if you have a child or nephew to pass it down to they will really appreciate it and you can teach them about boating.:) That's how I look at it at least.

Don't sell it! I just thought it was ironic you live in a desert and own a boat. If I lived in Alaska, I wouldn't invest in an outdoor swimming pool. It's just ironic. That's all!

Re: New Guy From Socal

i had 2 choices, either get the 1985 evinrude 6hp two stroke for 200 bucks or get the trolling motor minn kota endura with 46lb thrust and the battery for 150 bucks and now im feeling like i made the wrong desicion by going with the evirude. so far i heard that they will be getting rid of 2 strokes in california by next year and that your 30lb trolling does okay and i know 46lb aint much of a difference but maybe that would of done a little bit better with 2 people and its so light weight too..dang bros im lost can i get some advice

If that 6hp runs then you made the right choice in my opinion. You can always buy a Minn Kota brand new/used for around $100 or less while a running outboard will cost more than $200 in most cases.

As far as the California rules go- you can always move to Michigan- we allow motors of al types except for a few private lakes.

I do like my electric since I can roll quietely and sneak up on all kinds of animals that an outboard would spook miles away. One advantage to the Minn Kotas. Also keeps environmentalists happy as it uses no petro.
