What does the paperwork say. Always the starting point.

Absolutely but it was a free Craigslist deal. I got a bill of "sale" written out but he doesn't know any info other than what's on the surface. Appreciate your response!

Welcome to iboats!:welcome:

Depending on where you live and the size of the boat, you may have a very nice lawn ornament. In my state, your boat is clearly old enough to not need a title; YMMV. Any numbers or labels on the hull?

Thanks!

Unfortunately, there are absolutely no serial numbers or other identifying information on the boat. It has been registered in Minnesota (where I do currently live) but not for about 15 years. The previous owner called the local registrar as he had the same questions as I and he was told that everything was clear. I do have his name, address and phone number in addition to what I mentioned but he's not running away from this at all.

It is a 14' fiberglass boat. Last I checked, boats manufactured before 1979 or < 16' aren't required to be titled in Minnesota but I want to get everything taken care of legally before I start any sort of resto project.

Thanks for your help!

Yes, sir! Boat is so light that when trailering it home with the wife's Trailblazer I had to remind myself that I was, indeed, pulling something!

From what I've been reading, there is a bunch of fiberglass boats built from the late 50's to the 70's.

Yeah, you can even drag that into the 80's some. The outboard is a 50's model Evinrude (I think) - later 50's. Might plug around HERE a bit and see if anything starts lookin' like what you have.

Welcome aboard.

Boating is a new thing for me so I figured that if I can get a cheap/free starter project, what better way to learn? :)

I sort of figured as much... but he is right, though. Typically a free anything is more trouble than it's worth. I'll be learning this winter - that's for sure!

Absolutely. I'm hoping it will be a nice learning project for my boys and I but it could very well turn into a field ornament too! First step, still, is to identify what the heck I picked up.

You got a couple weeks before the lake freezes. You should be able to get a test run by then. Welcome aboard DG.

Freezes??? In a couple weeks????? No thought of even wearing long pants until much later than that and nothing freezes here. How nice of you to remind me of why I moved from PA....

Don't know about the boat, but the motor is a 1956 Evinrude Lark 30 hp.
