Hey, guys. i've been lurkin the forum for a while and thought i'd go ahead and join. I've been enjoying everyone's build threads and etc.

I live on the panhandle of FL and have been wanting to build a classic aluminum stracraft for a while and i've finally decided to take the jump and do it. Problem i'm running into now is locating one. Any helpful ideas? I've been cruising around craiglist and the local community but i keep coming up short. I'm looking for a 14-18' boat. This will also be my first boat build.

coolbikeguy, thanks! I've checked out tempest (first time, awesome site) and came up empty. I found a few but i'm not paying $2,500-3,000 for a boat that needs a complete rebuild.

The hunt conitues....

I use Mozilla and Crazedlist. It allows you to search by region or the entire country.

Try typing Crazedlist.org in your browser and see what happens. There were lots more in the southeast, I just pasted a few!

Good luck on your search.

Swifty, have you considered posting an ad on CL yourself? "starcraft or similar aluminum boat wanted, any age or condition if price is appropriate" etc. "turn your yard art into cash" gets people's attention.

i had great luck going this route to find an engine-donor boat. i've noticed many people on here seem to have just stumbled across theirs as it was rotting back to the bare aluminum in someone's back yard or under a tree. remember that many people don't realize that rotted wood don't mean "terminal" like it often does for f'glass boats.
