Ok real new with boats, like 5 days! Had a 14 foot tri hull with 85 up Evinrude pretty much given to me. Yep needs work. Had to replace ignition switch keys wouldn't turn it. Has OMC control. While inside control box discovered wires going to an interupter(?) Switch cut. Looks like it goes to ground when pushed. What does it do? Had motor started briefly, chokes are killing it.
goal is just to make a fishing boat for me and my boys. Looking to redo floor this winter, couple of soft spots.
Thanks for any help!

Glad you have plans to rebuild the floor. But also figure on transom, stringers and bulkheads as well. Because usually by the time the floor starts getting "soft spots" the rest has already rotted. But you will discover that when the time comes to dig into it.

As with most any used boat/motor, you will have some issues. A good schematic diagram for your engine will certainly point you into the right direction. And those schematics are not very hard to find either. There are some on these forums in the library/sticky section as well.

I would certainly tell you to find and buy the factory's original shop manual for your engine. It covers everything you would ever need or want to know about just your specific engine. DON'T buy an after market version. They try to cover so many models that they skip the really important things. Buy your very manufacturer's engine specific shop manual.
