New here, need advice on rebuild of XR6 powerhead

Hi, I am helping my neighbor with a 94 XR6 repair. Cylinders 1 and 2 seemed to have overheated and #1 threw the rod. I have pulled the power head and removed the piston in 1 and noticed aluminum scuffing on the cylinder wall. Aluminum is imbedded in the bore and I am sure I can get it out.
He said he had the local dealer overhaul this motor about 6 years ago. I noticed hone marks on the other cylinders and they still look pretty good.
My book shows specs for a XR4 but doesn't cover the XR6 motor, I plan to change that shortly by ordering a new manual.
My question is, can these cylinders be bored or honed? I have found different sources for oversize pistons and rings but my book shows XR4 and most all motors after to have chromed cylinders and the book does not recommend honing. Since it has obviously been honed in the past I am wondering whether I should clean the cylinder and repair the existing power head.
Any help would be appreciated. FWIW, I believe that he had his jackplate too high and the top two cylinders overheated. It doesn't look like a oiling problem as the other cylinders look pretty nice.
Thanks in advance...

What's the sleeve material? The XR4 is steel sleeved. I believe the XR6 might be also. If it is, it can be honed, or even bored oversize. It can also be bored out and a steel sleeve put in it if it's a plated bore. One hole different doesn't seem to bother these engines as long as the rods and pistons match reasonably in weight.

It's worth shipping it cross country to have a real outboard expert do the machining. It's way over the heads of most automotive shops.

I feel the pain. Gonna figure out how to key in a real loud alarm after the oil alert post beeps are done so I don't miss overheat or oil alarm when this thing is screaming behind me.

hope it helps

Thanks guys, I wasn't sure about the chromed lining issue. I thought it odd the previous shop honed the cylinders if it wasn't recommended. The shop is a reputable business and I doubt it would cobble a customers motor.
As far as the cylinders I am hoping to not have to have it bored. I have checked the two damaged cylinders and there is .004 taper on them. I still have to hone them but hope they stay that way.
Does anyone out there know where I can locate a crankshaft?
