Been a member of several forums, now here. Before I ask any questions, just want to say I always search before placing any questions. I have worked on all kinds of engines, ported many 2 strokes (about 60/40 on results) and 4strokes. But I see that outboards are kinda an animal of its own. I rebuildt a Merc 40hp that the crank broke at the flywheel junction. Worked well 3 years after but never found out why it broke. Anyway, I have now a 18ft canoe with outrigger and f2.5 yamaha to power it. Never had more fun than with this conoe. I have several questions and I guess here is the place to ask them. The motor is new and I have broke it in real nice and use synthetic oil now. It is a splash lube system and I use synthetic oil so it splashes well when cold and doesn't get too thin when hot. Is this the correct thinking? I use the boat about everyday for an hour or so. The owners manual says 100 hours on oil changes. Yea, right. I change at 25 hours and use a tinytac like rpm/hour meter. I also use a dab of 2cycle oil in the gas for valve guide, valve seat and top ring lube. What is this seafoam stuff? I have read about it here and it seems like I should use it once per year? It is a new thing to me. I always have jetted my 2strokes to "4stroke" whan not loaded but clears when a load is applied. Does it apply to outboards? I do this even for my weedeater. I have indexed drills down to .004in and use these to drill out pilot and main jets. Yes, I have had to slug then with lead and redrill smaller after going too far. In fact I had to open up the pilot jet on this f2.5 as the low speed operation was eratic. Then I found the air screw adjustment after this operation...the screw wasn't shown on my CDservice manual. But it runs excellent now. Enough for now, will probably have some completly wrong things to say at one time or another. Just don't scold me too hard!
