Installing a new hub, 1250# onto a 1" sraight shaft, directions say to tighten the nut down to 30/40 ft. lbs. while turning the hub to ensure the bearings are properly seated. Loosen nut and finger tighten. Does that sound about right to you. The hub is pre-greased would you add any additional grease and if so what kind?

Yup....error on the side of loose. After seating the bearings and turning the nut hand tight LOOSEN nut to first cotter pin slot. The re-greasing is your call but I would leave well enough alone.

Thanks for the input. After reading the thread on how much grease do you put in your wheel bearings not sure which way to go. I tend to agree with you, leave well enough alone. You can always pull the dust cover off to inspect the hub for water and when it comes time to repack , no big mess!
