new impeller doesn't pump at slow speed

58 johnson 35 hp. There are 3 exhaust holes. The main exhaust no water, the middle expels pee power like a 50's plus man . I don't know what third hole is.I replaced impeller, housing looked good, intakes clear, the old impeller looked the same as the one I put in .I barrel tested and seems to get hot quick. I shut her down what now? Should there be water exhausting out of the main exhaust as well as pee hole?

Sounds like you have the wrong impeller. Did you check the part number?

... or the housing or wear plate have some scoring, or the grommet got folded over during assembly.

Grommet folded? Do you mean the key? It is the correct impeller.

You should see water exiting at this location. At idle, it will fill the cup of your hand real quick.

No not the key, the grommet is the soft piece that goes in the pump outlet where the water tube should land.

Yes I see that Johnson 10hp . I have a dribble at idle and is spurting not spraying volume at high speed.I guess I need to tear it down and see whats up.
