Shop completed my winterization last fall, they pulled the old Impeller out and left me a new one hanging on the steering wheel without the directions of installing. Of course they are now out of business.
Question is which directions do the spines go? Volvo Penta 5.0. Part number towards the block or towards the impeller housing?

I've searched high and low on the net and can't find a answer.

I'll be waiting with wrench in hand. I did the search and found many comments that were close but didn't give an actual direction.

It doesn't matter which way you put it in or which direction the vanes are aimed. When the engine is cranked, they will turn the proper direction.

Thanks Don S... That makes it a little easier. Now if I can just get them drain plugs back in with limited amounts of cuts I'll be ready to crank her up.
Have a great one.

You may want to buy a tap to clean the drain plug holes in the block. When they sit empty all winter the water that last left the block tends to leave rust across the threads.

Thanks uaw9fan.
Was able to get them in ok, But knees are a little soft and yet sore today.
Was able to get her started with no problems. Maybe nothing to freet over but I gave the hose from the impeller to the T-stat a little squeeze and didn't fill much resistance. I was a little worried to let it warm up much in fear of having to tell my wife we had a problem.
Any safe way for a amatuer to verify water is flowing using muffs?

I usually just put my hand on the impeller housing. If the impeller is not getting water the housing it will begin to get warmer. If water flow is good then the housing will stay as cold as the water flowing through it.I also put my hands on top of the exhaust manifolds and behind the exhaust elbows elbows.they should get a little warm, then as water flows, cool off in a hurry.
