'86 merc 470 that i got in may. It has performed admirably so far. Only repair was a u-joint bellows and shift cable, for which the PO had "fixed" by disconnecting the SIS and lowering the idle...anyway...
Before next season I'd like to do anything that could be considered maintenance. I need to know what those things are, and what parts i'll need. I always assume when i buy a used car that no maintenance has ever been done--same here. here's what i have so far;
1. Remove outdrive, reinspect, grease, etc. Change impeller. Change lower unit oil. Touch up paint lower unit.
--Parts needed: Paint, gear oil, lower unit gasket, impeller
2. Remove, inspect exhaust mani/riser. They have some rust around the mating surfaces, so i want to at least clean/repaint/replace gaskets.
--Parts: Gasket sets
3. Change motor oil/coolant.
4. Winterize: Drain/clean/inspect heat exchanger, fog engine.
--Parts: heat exchanger gaskets, fogging oil
5. For the summer: New points/plugs

Anything else I'm missing? Particularly parts? I hate being midway into something and realize i'm missing...something needed to do the job right. Anything else that should be done to this boat? I haven't had an issue with the (original) charging system, don't see any weeping coolant from the front of the engine, and haven't had any issues at all with cooling. The one thing that this boat does is bog initially if i punch it. The middle 2 plugs look slightly fouled, while #1 and 4 look clean. I'm guessing I have a rich running carb. I've never messed with a complex auto carb before, but I'm guessing an R&R wouldn't be out of line here...

Oh, lastly, where can i find the part #'s that I need? I see some of them in the manuals, but not everything.
Thanks!
