Found this on our local auction site for the price of a tank of gas. https://youtu.be/vwOCuCWZXa0

'84 model.

Compression is good.

Seems to run cool, but the gas valve leaks badly. I'll need to give it some TLC - maybe an impeller and a carb cleaning. It'll make a good emergency kicker for my tin boat.

Good for you. It's even close to the same color as the one you've been wrenching on isn't it? I think I remember seeing pics you showed with the grey in them.

It's an '84, my rebuild has '82 livery. Close enough, but if I wanted to complete the look I could pay almost the price of the motor for some repo decals for an '82. The answer? Nah...

I need to fix the packing nuts on the needles and the petcock the former are loose, and the latter leaks.

Well, something had to be wrong. Gearcase was full of water. Seal under pump is torn. Gears have some rust but seem to mesh and run OK, so I'll re-seal and hope for the best. Usage is expected to be minimal, so...

Re-sealed the gearcase and although pitted, the gears mesh OK and run OK too. Got a spare set of gears from a fellow in Florida that I'll keep in the event these get chewed up. Fixed the fuel petcock leak with a couple of spare O-rings from a carb kit, and rebuilt the carb - no more leaks.

Put the kicker bracket back on the boat and hung it tonight. Heading out to Kootenay Lake on Friday. Good to have a little backup instead of paddles. (Truly little in this case - 70x more power on the main thruster. I don't think I'll plane out on the 2.)

So, where's the throttle friction adjustment on this little wonder? Unless I put it at WOT where there's a clip detent, it'll shake the throttle back down toward slow.

yeah, ran into that with more than one of the 3's. My solution was to bend the throttle lever slightly on those to bind on the shroud. Have to believe that isn't the appropriate solution, but didn't have a better one.

(Nice rig and installation there. It's some big water, and not sure how it will do in wind and current, but for slow trolling in calm conditions I have to think it will do the job for you. You can run it at higher rpms and still slow troll (lakers?) -- that's better for the motor anyway.)

Found there's a screw under the timer base with a fat spring that clamps it to the top of the crank case. Gave it a half turn and now the throttle is nice and stiff.

We're not there to fish, just tour around a bit. Cabin right on the beach and we're to launch a 1/4 mile away and beach right in front (glad my TnT is working properly).

Having a second motor against the chance of a problem with the main is never a bad idea, especially on a big body of water. Probably run a lot faster than we could paddling.

Well done on the fix! (I'm a big believer on a get-me-home motor -- peace of mind.) Happy touring to ya. :thumb:
