malone2, Sounds like you have restriction in carbs .Common problem and easy fix. You'll need to remove carbs and clean passages and fixed jets of debris.Pay particular attention to the pickup tubes in carb bowls.
You can scroll to bottom of this page for a manual.Post model number or year and someone can steer you toward some carburetor kits.

Hi malone....

The generic manuals are good but I'd check at a local Evinrude/Johnson dealership for getting one specifically for your engine. They are real detailed when it comes to what you want to do. Lots of other good stuff in them also.

Happy mechanizing.....Jim

Don't make the same mistake I did. I bought the Seloc and the Clymers manuals for my 120 but find myself in need of the factory manual. Spend a few extra bucks for the right manual for your motor. These ones I bought are too generic for me. Good Luck! And welcome to the forum :D

Malone, Carbs are simple. Get yourself a can of gumout, carbcleaner whatever you can find.Do one carb at a time. You will have four screws that hold the bottom bowl in place remove them. You will have acces to the float. you can remove that by removing the pin that is horizontal with the carb. You can push it thru with a small nail. Once you do that the needle and seat will be under that. Do notice how the needel is held on to the float .Take a flat screw driver and back out the seat that the needle goes down into.It is like a srew with a hole in it.There will be a plastic washer under this seat. Then take you carb clean and spray the heck out of everything and in every hole and orifice. You will have a high speed jet. you will need to take you screw driver and remove that screw. This is on the outside of the bottom bowl. Take your gumout with the straw on the end and blast thru it. Do this on top for the low speed jet. If you have and air compressor give everything a blast after you hit it with carb cleaner. Most Jets are fixed so there is no adjustment. When you assemble just remember to put your needle back in the seat and to catch the float with the tiny staple attached so it rides on the float. A manual will show you how to adjust the float. Most of the time you do not need to touch the float unless it is a new carb kit. Good Luck It is not that hard.

Re: New member,evinrude 120 question.

I gotta agree...get the OMC manual. I bought a Cylmers, too generac, and covers many years. PIC we're not right for my motor and I had to guess, etc. I gave up and bought a manual for MY motor. www.theoutboardwizard.com Has all OMC factory manuals. E-mail him the HP, Model #, and Serial No. He'll get back to you. About $42.00. I believe he'll also copy pages for 50 cents each or so. Ralph is his name. ;)

i agree on not wasting your money on anything but a factory manual with parts list. it will become your best friend. if you go to the search menu and type in 120 looper or loopvee you will get alot of useful threads along with some good
web sites to help you.
im still working on my j120lv, ive been down due bad spine injection the past month so im at a stand still. good luck.
