Hello,
Just joined this evening and want to post about my new boat. I recently found a real nice Sea Nymph TX175 Tournament 17' boat on ebay that I got a real good deal on. The boat is a 1991 model with a 1992 Evinrude 60HP two stroke motor. Looks like a typical bass boat with a seat up front and one in the rear along with a console/steering wheel and gauges and two seats there. It has several storage compartments and a big live well behind the seat and a smaller one up front or it could be used for live bait.
The boat is well maintained and was owned by a park ranger so I thought it would have been taken care of and serviced on a regular basis. The engine is very clean and runs strong. All 3 cylinders are around 120 and the boat tops out at around 52 with a 21 pitch Turning point Legacy prop. The two props that came with it were chewed up and horrible performers. I bought two new props with one a 19 and the other a 21 pitch and man what a difference. Soooo smooth and it planes in about 3 seconds and your cruising.
The motor sounds real sweet at 6000 rpm going down the river and it handles nice too. Of course it has electric tilt and trim which I wouldn't be without. I'm very happy with this boat. I have been using a 14' jon boat with a 50lb thrust trolling motor for several years. Got the old Evinrude 7.5HP running that came with it and that was a nice runner with two of us in it. Eight years of that jon boat and now the upgrade with the Sea Nymph is a major improvement. I have a real boat now and having a blast in it. I had no idea it would go that fast.
Anyway I do all of my own work and love boating. After seeing so many Bass Trackers everywhere I go it's nice to have something different that you don't see many of. I have only owned Evinrude engines and am partial to them myself. A buddy of mine has a Mercruiser jet thats nice but I like my prop engines just fine. There is a nice deep 5 mile stretch of river here I can play in and fish in. Everyone you see putting a boat in has a jet and of course the shallow water with a jet is the way to go but they are a lot more expensive and I can't see spending the extra money for one anyway. I'm content with the 60 horse prop engine and it has plenty of power for me.
So thats about it for now. I'm experimenting with different pitch props and also recently rebuilt the 7.5 Evinrude and it runs real good for an older engine. The 14' boat which is a Polarkraft i think makes way down the river fine but the new boat will be the one I spend the most time in. Too bad its getting colder out since I just got it but oh well. Ok thats it for now. My name is Nick and I'll be around lurking if anyone wants to talk boats.

First off,...welcome to the site,my friend! Congratulations on your purchase of a Sea Nymph boat w/ Evinrude motor. Though I am a Lund guy,I would
choose Sea Nymph as my second choice boat. I am more into the 14 ft. utility
v bottom boats,though,...simpler for simple minded guys like myself. Give me a
14 ft. utility-v bottom rowboat w/motor and acouple of oars,a fishing rod, small tackle box,and I am happy. I don't need no high powered boat to go fishing.

Hey Lundman,
I hear what your saying being a simple man. I can relate to that myself. I don't always go fast in the water but when you have to travel a good distance it's nice to get there quickly and not take an hour or so. My old boat only had a 50lb thrust trolling motor for the last 3-4 years and thats all I used so I literally was putting along in the river myself. It was a 14' jon boat and suited me well. It came with a 7.5hp Evinrude that had problems and I put it in the shed and left it there for 7 years. I finally got the urge to see if I could get it running. I have been an auto mechanic for years and thought it couldn't be all that hard to fix this thing.

So with a little reading and research I decided it was actually very simple. Now it runs very well and is a strong little motor. With a carb rebuild, head gasket, power pack, coil, water pump, fuel pump and new plugs I pratically rebuilt it. I can't believe how much power that small motor has it makes that 14' boat scoot right along. Not long after I did that my girlfriend found a boat on ebay that had it all. So we watched it and the auction ended without me bidding. I e-mailed the seller and said let me know if your deal falls through as I am still interested in it. Sure enough the buyer backed out and I got it for $700.00 less than the auction price. It was only 20 miles up the road and we drove to his house hooked it up and brought it home. After looking it over and taking it out a few times it really turned out to be a sweet boat.

The 60hp engine is a major upgrade and has a lot of torque. I've had it up to 52mph and thats probably about as fast as it gets. Thats plenty fast for me and it makes my eyes water. I don't always go full throttle but sometimes you feel like playing after your tired of fishing and it's nice to have the power there. I'm pretty content with this boat and it seems to be made well. Everything works fine except for the speedometer in the dash. I use the digital speedo with the Lowrance fish finder and it seems to work fine. Still I'd like to get the dash unit working but for some reason it just won't work. I'm thinking the pitot is in the wrong place on the back of the boat because I have done everything else I could think of to make it work and no good.

Even bought a new head unit and still the same problem. Anyway the Sea Nymph is a good looking boat. I can't seem to find any others like it so far in my search or much info on these boats. Maybe they didn't make that many of them I don't know. I see other models and like the fish and ski boat with the walk through windshield. Maybe one day I'll get one of those because there isn't much room in this boat. Two people are fine but three is a crowd. So a bigger boat is in the future and this will be my main bass river boat. So thats about it for now. Talk to ya later.
