Been reading through all the posts for about a week now and thought I would finally get on with my questions. I'm looking into a 1970 Chris Craft XK22. Its complete minus the tachometer. It also has a running 350 and volvo outdrive. There is a little fiberglass damage but nothing serious. I did a tap test over the boat and I don't hear any delams. I'm going to attach a few pics of the damage and the boat to see what y'all think. Hes asking 3500 which seems like a good price, but I'm having a heck of a time finding any information. Its also going to need the interior redone and the exterior painted.

The glass work doesn't look like it would be bad, if the transom and stringers are sound. But I have to say $3,500.00 seems real steep to me.

Ok, first off.....welcome to iboats! but secondly Slow down! We need a lot more information and I think you need to do some further research. $3500 is WAY WAY too much for that boat. In immaculate condition that boat may be worth that much but as it sits I can't imagine it being worth more than a grand. Early 70's inboard/outboards can be a nightmare as far as parts and service go. At minimum, you need to put a post up in the I/O repair forum on here with as much information as you can about the motor and drive. Those guys can tell you whether this thing is worth putting money into.

Where are you located? The market can be very different depending on your location; but that price sounds high.

Its a project boat, to evaluate you can pretty much ignore the hull, you need to get down to the stringers beneath the deck.

At 40 yrs old, I'd fully expect the stringers and transom to need replacing, forget banging on it, wood thats full of water is quite solid sounding.

Chris Craft is one of my favourite boats though and I'd probably go for it, but at a lower price. You might have to wait a while until he gets that $3500 price out of his system. It really isn't worth more than a grand, if that.

My boat is a 1974 Chrysler and almost every chunk of wood in it was rotted, it looked good though.!
Pull the tank hatch and get down to the lower stringers, you'll find mush I'm sure.

In todays mkt $3500 will buy a lot better boat, mine was $700.

Well I did a lot of research and found that at 3500 it is probably a good deal. It has the original gen1 LT1 motor with the 186 heads and 1970 only aluminum high rise intake. The stringers don't actually have any wood, they're just hand laid fiberglass as is the rest of the boat. Its hull#0008 out of 276 ever built. I found a few other hulls that were bought in the past few years and they all went for around 3000, but with a bad motor or drive. Started working on it today and everything seems in order. As for my location, west texas. Not too many boats like this come along. All and all, I'm pretty happy with my purchase so far. I'm getting the interior done in the next couple of weeks and doing a good tune up right now. Goal right now is to be partying at hells gate by mid may! I guess we'll see

Is there an hour meter? An original LT1 wow that is a 40 year old motor and even it it only went out for 30 or 40 hours per season....that is allot of possible hours and wear on the both the LT1 and the outdrive.....

I understand it may be a rare hull but my question is are you buying it for fun or show. I doubt I could fall in love with that hull being that old.

Good deal man, sounds like you got what you wanted and did the research on it. Chris Craft from what I understand is a top shelf boat, and I wouldn't be to concerned about that LT1. I understand where Bob is coming from, but I cut my teeth working on SB Chevy's and you can refresh that motor easy enough, the drive well I'm a real novice there.

Any way I'm glad you got it and are happy with it.
