Just finished the break in, was running Merc oil, want to switch to full synthetic. Shop guy at Cabela's recommends that I stick with the Merc oil. What full synthetic should I use, that is readily available and can get anywhere? I dont want to have to order anything or go 50 miles to buy it.

I've heard good things about Pennzoil Full Synthetic, its available at Wal-Mart for around 15 bucks a gallon and its biodegradable. Make sure you get all of the regular oil out when you make the switch.

Re: New Merc 50hp ELPTO

I like the AMSOIL line of products. I run the injector oil in my Mercury 2.5 EFI and actually gained 3 miles per hour (by GPS) on top end. I run this oil in all my other small outboards also with extremely good results. https://www.amsoil.com/storefront/hpi.aspx This is a very good product as far as I am concerned. It is somewhat more expensive than brands that you can get from Wal-mart, but I think that its worth the extra money.

P.S. you can join Amsoil as a preferred customer for $20.00 a year and you get products at a reduced amount.
