I have a 1986 I4 3.0L 140 HP M2 Mercarb that needs replacing. Its a 2bbl with one adjusting needle. # 1389-9350. I found a late model 2bbl mercarb off of a 3.0L merc engine. It looks identical in every way. Can I bolt this on?
Thanks

Hard to say, give it a try an let us know.
Personally I have never seen any book, manual or anything else that says part number XXXXXXXXXX is a direct replacement for PN 1WhateveryouhaveXX.
External looks means nothing if the insides are different.

Re: new mercarb

The carb # you posted fits Mercruiser engines serial #6229718 thru C856558 which covers 1982 thru 1989.

Do you have the number from the carb you want to install, or the serial number of the engine it's off of ?

Re: new mercarb

The gentleman selling this carb says it is a MCM 3.0L/3.0XL. The side of the carb says SAE J 1223 Marine. Staped on the carb is the number 864940 21 4712.
