Well, the new engine arrived the Mercruiser 4.3L alpha 4v (225HP), now once the Closed Cooling system arrives I can get this puppy installed, and be ready for the spring.... It should be a nice step up from the blown 1991 4.3L (175 HP) I had in there before.

Nice. we don't often get to see a 'crate' engine from Mercruiser.

That should be a lot less maintenance than a 'puppy'.. Do the flames on the cowling make it go faster?

I was told the flames should add an extra 7-10 hp :D

While you're grounded from the water, why don't you drop your lower unit off at a qualified marine shop and have them pressure and vacuum test it to verify the seals are still good. And change the lower unit grease and impeller while you're at it.

When you're ready to go with the new engine, you don't want the weak link in the powertrain to ruin your day.

Ayuh,.... Cool,.... Is it from Mercruiser, or Michigan Motors,..?? Nice either way...

Get it outa the crate, check it over, lube it up, 'n Light her off,....

Hang the coolin' system after ya hear it Run,...

Back in '91, the 4 bbl. versions was the 205 hp,... I've got 1, 'bout '92/ '93...

I'm guessin' yer's is a Vortec headed build, hence another 20 hp...

Thanks, already did that at the begining of the year.

Should be coming out of the crate in about another week once the Cooling kit arrives. Don't want it to get scratched, or have something accidently fall on it :)

It came from Mercury.

Are you going to be installing an engine mounted raw water pump? That is what Mercruiser recommends with the Full closed system. More volume and pressure from the inboard pump.

Hi Don,

I didn't think I needed one for this engine? The Mercury website site said a Seawater Pump Kit was not applicable to this model, and that I only need a belt kit?

Well finally got the new engine installed in the boat, it went in with only one small glitch, the couplings on the Power Steering were Imperial, and I needed Metric, so I had to have the couplings changed. other then that it went very smooth, and I didn't need pulley changing kit. The full cooling system attached pretty easily, and fit nicely under the cover. Water tested it yesterday and it goes like a rocket, but now it has to be winterized and put away for the winter, which is happeneing tomorrow.

$6900.00, and that included shipping up to Nova Scotia, plus all the taxes. I figured since it was only a few hundred dollars more that I would go with the Alpha 4V instead of the standard 4.3L. This should help the resale value sometime down the road.

Jezus! That's what the entire boat would go for used out west! Nice purchase!

Damn I thought it was going to give me at least another 20 HP

...right where the silver part of the flame ends, put on the letters NOS
that should get you the extra 10 hp....
