My parents want to repower their boat to a new Mercury 90hp 4 stroke. They don't use it a lot, mainly when they go on trips so a new motor w/ warranty is very appealing to them. I've been looking into it for them, my question is what to do for gauges? The boat has a 1991 mariner on it. If we use the 8 pin to 14 pin adapter harness with the current 8 pin control, can the the analog gauges be made to work (only has tach and water temp)? All work would be done at a dealer in order to validate warranty, just don't want to get talked into a whole new set of smartcraft gauges if it's not needed. Is there any way to use the analog gauges with a new 14 pin control? Also, would the motor have an alarm for oil pressue if we dont upgrade to smart craft gauges?
Thanks for any help. I've replaced the transom in their boat with help from this forum and it went very smoothly, appreciate all the info here.
