new mercury owner got a question

Hello everyone today i acquired my first mercury motor its a 5hp 1991 i believe is the year . It seems to be in decent shape the only thing i noticed is that the shift lever is missing . does anyone know what the procedure is to replacing it and where it can be purchased?

My other question I want to convert this one into a remote control unit ifim going to do that do i even need the shift lever on the side?
