I put a brand spankin' new 2015 Yamaha 25 4-stroke into the water yesterday. It had never been run previously. As I bought this from a private party, I didn't get any dealer tips or advice. So my question is; what should I be doing about breaking this motor in? Should I be varying speed? Some WOT, no WOT etc.? TIA.

Thank you GA_Boater.
Don't forget to torque all the head bolts after the first 15 hours or so starting with bolt #1 there is a sequence
Please use 100% synthetic oils for everything.
Do all the maintance yourself, it's so fast, easy, and cheap.
Please add a 10 micron spin on water separating filter, mount on transom. Dump out light on fire at end of season, thin coat of marin grease on gasket spin it back on for next season.
If you have EFI/fuel injectors, there is diagnostic software on e-bay for 65 bucks,to diagnose all problems and log all maintance, cable included, need laptop or tablet to look at it. Have some fun too.

Be advised that the systems you buy on eBay is the early diagnostic system and pretty basic. They updated the complete system several years ago to cover more advanced engine systems and these systems are not available to the public. I just looked at the engines they claim they will work on and they are incorrect on many. They will work on the international models but not the Yamaha USA units. Be sure it will work on your engine before buying.
