So finally I was able to get out with my re-power....Twin 4.3's with alpha 1's... So according to break in procedure it said don't exceed 2k rpm... 2nd hour don't exceed 3k rpm, after the 2nd hour up to 4k and so on.... after 10 hrs let her rip tater chip......
Is this consistent with other break in procedures out there......
Just curious as to what other thoughts are....

The engine itself doesn't need all the hocus pocus. I wouldn't drop the hammer and run it for an extended period, however they are essentially auto engines so the only thing you need to do is to accelerate/decelerate about 15 times to bed the rings. After that...run it moderately for the first few hours, dump the sump, change the filter, fill with new oil and you're good.

They'll run a "fever"(about 20deg hotter) for a bit but once it "breaks" and the temps come down you can change the oil anytime after that as well.

That's all I'd do...that's about all I do on any engine I build. That's about all my 45 year experienced engine builder does.

But...they're your engines.

depends on engine year, cam design (flat tappet or roller), and ring material (way too many to list).

so to be safe, follow the procedure in the manual. while it is very conservative, the break-in procedure is intended to minimize break-in issues, and therefore warranty claims for the manufacturer

With a roller cam, your pretty much just breaking in the rings

Nope,..... Flat tappet cam break-in is the 1st 20 minutes of a motor's life,....

The hours in yer schedule is ring, 'n bearin' break-in,...
