Hello, I had a 75 merc 8500 that would not go past 5-10 mph, i could not get my 15' boat to plain( I rebuilt the entire motor). I went out this weekend and boat another 8500 that was rebuilt by a mechanic, and know i have the same problem. When the engine is accelorating my buddy has to prime the bulb to keep it running just like the last motor. When i hit the accelorater the engine will stall if the bulb is not being primed. Could it be my built in gas tank. I have replaced the parts on it but i keep having the same problem of my engines being starved for fuel.

Re: New Motor same problem

Some thing is restricting the fuel flow, a screen in the tank, a anti sphion valve, a rubber fuel line that is collapsing internally, a bad vent on the fuel tank. try runnig on a portable tank to make sure the problem is in your fuel system--Bob

maybe trash in the carb or needle valve,if not in the fuel line.
