A 350 gmc.

but if you are staying with a 305, put Vortec heads on it, and the same cam that Mercruiser uses ( I am sure crane or somone has one close). Then put headers on it, and then you won't need 3" pipe, 2.5 will be fine.

One project at a time :) i wish i could put 350 in it right now but transmission is costing me my arse as it is,1400bucks plus new clutch kit 130.00 and turning the flywhhl down 30.00 but it should last me along while thanks for the input.

Re: New mufflers?

Gotcha Ron. My thing against 3" pipe is that it was hard for me to get an intermediate pipe that big, when I put a muffler on my 1987 Chevy van. Muffler was easy, it was $20 (walker) but the pipe from the converter to it was like $40, and I just "lucked" into it, when the one auto parts store let me come behind the counter. (I love that!). And the other thing is it's just HUGE. It takes up a lot of space. When you get to the back, you are gonna have trouble getting around the spare tire (if you are going out the back, like everyone seems to do). That said, you are talking about a complete bolt on system, so in theory those guys know about those issues. I have never worked with any of those systems, so I'll shut up now. Sorry I couldn't help.
