Hey whats up guys. I just sold my whaler and got a 1994 cape horn 19 cc. It has a 1999 merc optimax 135 saltwater. Ok here goes:

1) For slushing the engine do i just hook up the garden hose to the built in adapter by the pee hole. When i do this it seems to be ok but i have a light that comes on and beeps right when i crank it, it looks like a thermostat in water(i fugure its the temp for the engine). Is this normal?

2) It has two oil reservoirs, a 3 gallon tank in the console and a small one on the engine. is the small one just an overflow tank?

3) what do all the lights stand for? one is oil, one is a thermostat in water, one is a picture of a piston and i can't remember the other one haha

thanks a bunch!!!!

Others may know better on this one, but I'll give it a shot. You can flush it using the port on the engine with the engine not running even though some Merc literature will say otherwise. Use muffs for running it when out of the water. The gauge lighting up and the beep are normal. It beeps to let you know the warning horn is working. The oil in the reservoir in the engine compartment goes directly into the engine which is fed by the larger tank. The larger tank is like a holding tank. The thermostat warning light is overheat and I believe the piston light is a check engine light, which could mean a variety of things wrong.

Ok thanks man, yeah so i hooked the hose up to the garden hose adapter on the back of the engine(the adapter built into the engine not the ear muffs) and ran it for about 10 minutes. It did fine and had a steady pee stream and everthing but my temp light came on as soon as i fired it up, and it beeps every now and then(3 consecutive beeps) any idea what this means?

Re: New optimax, many questions!!!!!!

That ten minute run most likely wiped out the impeller on your water pump. You will confirm this when you put the boat back in the water. With the lower unit immersed the water pump suction will be flooded. when you turn it over the tell tale will give a good stream after the t-stats open and provided the water pump is putting out good pressure (at idle about 3 psi, 12 psi at WOT)

If you are not seeing that tell tale flow or the water pressure, shut it down and replace the water pump.
