new owner - 97' 40hp Johnson

quick question for a new owner - should I get a beep when I turn the key on the ignition? More importantly, what types of alarms/signals are on this motor? It's a J40TELEUC. I have the VRO harness unplugged. My owner's manual hasn't arrived yet.

I believe there is a beep as you turn it on to indicate the beep works.

I have a 60hp Johnson beeps on ignition! Then started won't turn off! I kinda have the same sorta problem, you have no beep, i cant get mine to stop I'm guessing it's something to do with the alarm, my vro is disconnected also, it must be simple just can get me head around it!!

where's the alarm, in the shifter or on the motor?
