I just picked up this deal, looks to be a good fishen platform and a good candidate for my 4 Stroke 04 Yamaha 25hp tiller..

Ill be removing the side console and the large cooler seat to both lighten it up and to free up some fishing room. I'm debating weather i want to remove the rod storage on the side b/c it really takes up alot of room.

Does anyone on here have the same model and has any advice on what i should look out for?

Re: New owner of 161 FM SC

Both my dad and I have 161FM SCs - I think mine is a 1990 - his is a 1991.

Very Similar, however the console is a bit different - with a curved windshield thats a lot lower, and the bench seat on mine is a storage compartment with a regular seat on top - I'm considering removing that and putting a pedestal seat instead, but I really like the storage.

I have a 35HP Johnson on it and get about 24MPG (GPS) at top speed.

I love the rod holder - it keeps the anchor light and about 15 rods on my boat safe and sound.

Everyone I know who has one of these has replaced some (or all) of the decking, and the carpet. And the foam seems to get waterlogged and never dry out.

The balance is a bit rear-heavy - especially if you have two batteries in the back, so having the SC is nice to move the driver forward (I think it would have been better to be all the way to the forward casting platform actually). I suppose you could rebalance things by moving the batteries into the compartment in front of the front pedestal seat.
