I havent been on the boards much since I completed the rebuild on my '72 Glastron V153 2 years ago, the last time my Wife and I were out on it she said she wished we had a bigger boat, so when I came across this StarCraft SS 180 last December that needed a rebuild I jumped at it. Boat, trailer and an '85 75 HP Merc, last registered in '90 was asking $900 OBO....$300 later it was in my driveway. So far Ive only got it tore down to the hull removing the consoles, rotten floor and frozen foam, the new floor pieces are cut and 2 coats of Spar on the bottom side, and new foam pieces cut. When the weather warms up a little I can clean the hull and fill with water to check for leaks. The hull appears to be in very good shape, no dents or cracks anywhere, just very dirty inside and out, the orange paint is very faded so a repaint will have to be done. Im not messing with the Merc motor because I have a '79 Johnson 85 from the Glastron (too heavy) that Im putting on it. I will post some pics later, Ive been reading through the StarCraft boards and want to thank everybody that contributes, this site is a wealth of info. REMOVED - MOD EDIT

Welcome to the Starcraft site.
Sounds like a good project.
Am curious about the motors though.

1985 75 hp Merc - 4 cyl - prop rated
1979 85 hp OMC - 4 cyl - powerhead rated (or about 75 at the prop)

I suspect both will be a bit light for that boat.

Congrats on the new boat! 300 is a steal. I personally don't think the 85hp is light, it will probably push that tin boat much faster than the glass one. Pics please!

Thanks guys, DL Im not looking to make a screamer out of it, just a cruiser for a little fishin and whatnot, engine has TnT so it should be fine. If its not I can re-carb and time it to 100 hp....its rated for 150.

It won't be with those motors.

For comparison, we have a 1976 Merc 850 on our SS16, it's basically the same as the later 75's, it is a perfect match for the SS16. The SS18 is significantly bigger then the 16.

I started measuring under the splash well today for a gas tank, what are you guys using for above the floor. I would like 12 gal minimum that I can use with the fuel neck in the transom but want to leave the bilge open. Not alot of options given the space under there.

For access to the bilge most of us have been using 8" spin out deck plates for access, it's the only way I can get to my bilge with the casting deck in place.

Leak test was a success I only found four rivets that are leaking the rest of the boat seems to be watertight.

Looks like a nice project, dont forget to get the water high enough to test the rivets on transom Z bracket.
