hey everyone, was just lookin around the internet and found this forum yall got a lot of good info. I recently bought my first boat, a 14' jon with a 28 johnson spl. I recently took it out and it was running in rough in low speed and eventually at full throtle. I have spent the last couple of days takeing it apart and tuning it up in the process I have learned a lot and found out I like working on motors. I also found out that some bolt holding in the starter were missing and i think that casued another bracket to brake. so today I fabricated a new bracket and tomorrow I have to borrow a drill and die out a hole. I took apart the carb and cleaned it, changed the oil for the lower unit I think its called, ordered new wires and plugs and just tighted everything up. I was wondering if there is any manual for this motor because there is a lot of stuff I dont know like how to space the plugs, What that nob on the front of the carb does, and if the electric choke is even working.well look foward to hearin from yall and thanks in advance

You should be able to find a service manual for your motor right here at iboats. Sounds like you have gotten alot done already, but obtaining a manual is a very smart move - it just makes life much easier, and insures that you get things done properly.

Welcome to iboats. what is the year of model # of your motor, we will get you hooked up with the correct manual. the 28's are great motors. if you did not use a rebuilt kit on the carbs, you probably will have to do it again.

thanks guys, I dont know what year, when I get home I will check for a model #, I didnt use a rebuild kit on the carb, It looked real clean already but I think that would probably help me understabd it a little better because I didnt even know there was a high speed and a low speed jet or to check the float. my buddy should be gettin me the brackets I made up for the starter today so once I get that done I can move on to really tunein her up
