It was finally time for all that faded burgundy and grey to go! [Maxum owners know what I mean, lol] I splurged on Interlux below the waterline, having to repair blistering first. The decks were done with a deep red metallic--color looks fantastic in the sun. Single stage urethane--that was cheap and easy.

I'm no professional--it the first metallic, [and second boat] I've ever painted !

EDIT: Hmmm, doesn't allow me to post a very big photo....oh well !

What method did you use to paint?

Below the waterline I used a brush/ spray combo. I bought foam brushes, but they seemed to drag the paint rather than leave it on the hull. I bought "smooth finish" roller covers, but the 4" width didn't fit conveniently with the ribs in the hull. So I brushed that. I started with the Interlux Interprotect, spot brushed the repairs with two good coats, then four full coats on the entire area below ther waterline. [ laying on my back on a creeper]. I did knock down some of the brushstrokes with sandpaper before applying the Interlux. Then the interlux had such a nice gloss, it showed brushing marks. So, I sanded it a bit, then sprayed a round of Interlux for a nice smooth glossy finish.

Above, I sprayed [hvlp gun] the single stage urethane [auto paint] over a surfacer, sanded, then sealer primers. I always assumed that metallics were a basecoat / clearcoat system, but this was an easy spray and walk away.

A little more involved [time and money] than I planned, but when I discovered the blistering, I couldn't ignore it. Hope it lasts...
