new parts dont look good- thoughts?

Hey Guys, just got my 2 new coils and stator by courier. The box was fine, everything inside was packed with shipping paper to protect it, the stator was in it's own box with bubble wrap around it. I was expecting my new CDI stator to have black plastic molded around the windings, but got hot glue instead. It's in a CDI box, with CDI pn on outside and CDI install instructions, even a CDI tag on the wires for the switchbox. Doesnt really look like anything I've seen made by CDI though. Problem i'm having is this- right out of the wrap, some of the pickups on both windings are bent. Both ends, top and bottom, of both pickups are bent away from the center.

Focus is bad, but you can see how theyre bent- the bottom of the low speed pickup has 3 fins bent down together. All 3 other corners have a single fin bent. This isnt right is it?? What should I do? bend them back, return it or dont worry about it?

Next problem- One of my 2 coils has a crack in it under the plastic cover- Under the cover, theres 2 pieces of metal that surround the coil from the top, around back and under the bottom, held in place by tape.

what about this- is it a problem, return it, dont worry about it, try and reuse a piece from an old coil. I'm not exactly impressed with this round of parts.

Those bent ends should be bent at a 90* angle to the steel core, they hold the coils on to the laminated poles from what I can see in those photos. The coils should not be cracked anywhere.

so youre saying bend them more? so they're straight up? my last stator had no bends and was encased in plastic. Thanks

c'mon guys. must be someone out there can tell me for sure wether or not these bends are ok. It looks real crappy to me. And what if I pulled my old stator apart? could it be fixed and then hot glued like this one. Any thoughts... please. has anyone ever received a stator that looked like this?

Don't worry about those 'clips' they are just retainers to help hold the coils into position before the potting goes on. The copper windings are not affected or moved by the passing magnets, they only 'feel' the EMF within the steel stator frame. CDI stators are not fully encapsulated like OEM parts as the 'full' coating retains too much heat, contributing to earlier death of a stator.

right on. thanks charlie. And the coil? here's my problem, cost me $50 and a week and 1/2 to get them here thanks to customs....even if i return it, im gonna get soaked for shipping and customs, again, i think anyways- the 2 coils i'm replacing- i should be able to replace the cracked piece with one from the 2 old coils....right??? is it just metal- is it magnetic- aluminum...wtf. appreciate any further help you can offer.

Call or email CDI and send them photos. They are great company. I have heard about phoney parts in CDI boxes and same for BPR.

Re: new parts dont look good- thoughts?

just heard back from CDI- up until recently, they did encapsulate the windings in plastic but have since switched to a 2 part epoxy gel, and the bent fins are for holding it in place and heat dissipation. Nothing to worry about i guess, thanks guys.
