New points question

1986 3.0L 4 cyl Mercruiser

Ordered new points and the new ones don't have the same hook up for the conderser.

The old one has the coil in and the condenser connectors on opposite sides of the points mechanism, but the new one appears to have only one post for the wires to hook up (which will leave them connected to each other all the time).

Not sure if this would cause a problem so I wanted to ask before installing.

The ones on my 1984 140hp merc are all on one side. To answer your ? it doesn't matter as long as both leads are hooked up.

I went the same way . dont bother with points they are prehistoric and trouble prone (this is my experience) convert to electronic ignition i got mine from this site http://www.sterndrive.info/sterndriveparts/id42.html engine starts much easier runs smoother you will love it
