9.5 Evinrude. Previously replaced gas tank, new gas, primer bulb, new gas line, new fuel pump, clean carub twice. Motor starts pretty good however once engaged in either forward or reverse motors quits. Appears like it is running out of gas, runs fine in barel. Any suggestions will be appreciated rpm seems fine also, I am at wits end,do not know of anything else to check.

Have you checked the lower unit? It could be full of water instead of lube. Or it could have monofilament wrapped-up on the propshaft.

hello.
I don't want to go back to saying check your reeds. But in the whole list of things you mentioned I did miss cleaning out the fuel filter, maybe even replacing the little bugger might be a good idea.
Dont get discouraged it is probably just one stupid little thing that you did not think of.

where did you get the primer bulb ?what kind is it? i have seen many of these replaced with some very cheap wanna be primer bulbs that were bad from the time they were built. also have you checked the fire if motor is not running on both cylinders it can give you some of the same symptoms. don't give up yet i am sure it can be figured out .. good luck ..

Howdy, AJohnston.

I agree with CaptBlacksMarine.

A twin will start and seem to run fine on one cylinder with no load on it, but croak when a load is applied.

You can check this out easily by grounding one plug at a time. If you ground the plug on a cylinder with no power there will be no change, If you ground the only cylinder with power the engine will die.

If you are on one, the other may be missing spark or it may have too little compression or, as Rolmops suggests, you may have a bad reed.

Good luck.

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)

Re: New Post same motor

Help still needed. I ran this motor today in a barel of water in gear and out of gear and it started and ran fine. I could not find anything wrong. I kept shuting in down with the kill button and restarting must have ;done this 20 times. A couple of times it did not want to restart, all other times it would start on the first pull. Is it possible that the kill switch somehow is not disengageing or perhaps a fraed wire in the vicinity of the points? Any ideas on that.

Arlie,
I would agree with some of the other posts, Check to see that both cylinders are firing. They will run fine under no load even with the prop engaged in a barrel, then when the load is applied there just isnt enough to keep it going, COuld be a bad coil or a bad set of points. Check to see that each plug is producing a good strong spark. Also make sure there are no small pin holes in the fuel line, could be sucking air, make sure the clamps on the pump and on the lines to and from are TIGHT and not leaking. could even have a plug wire rubbing on the flywheel etc. there are alot of could be's but I reckon we can fix this thing. I would say check your coils next.. Let me know if you need anything else.

gra6961@usa.net or gra6961@rocketmail.com
