new power pack on ocean runner 150 - Now What?

Installed a new CDI power pack hoping to get past the loss of RPM problem but no luck. Still lucky to get 4500 with motor trimmed up. Motor once ran out at 5500. Fuel line replaced, anti siphone valve gone, new plugs, coils ohmed at 295 +_, carbs rebuilt 6 months ago and VRO disabled. I've done something wrong, but can't figure it out. could a weak fuel pump be the cause?

Have you done a compression check? Did you run the diagnostics as per the CDI troubleshooting guide with a DVA meter. Did you sync the carbs and linkages to make sure everything is set per the factory service manual? Is the timing set correctly for WOT?

The compression is an even 100 in all six cylinders. I don't have a DVA meter. The butterflys in the carbs all open fully with throttle down and the roller that is at the top of the linkage is good. I wouldn't know how to sync beyond that. As for timing I haven't checked it. I thought I read on this forum and/or elsewhere that the timing was set and didn't need to be adjusted. It seems to idle okay, but may be a little lopey. It is under 1000 rpm for dead slow. It will get right up on plane and run fairly nice around 3800 to 4200 rpm. It is just missing the additional 1000 or rpm.

decided to try a can of sea foam and omc engine cleaner. a double dose of the stuff. Hand cranked it with rope as battery ended up being dead. Not much came out as far as carbon is concerned, but engine gained 100 rpms. May repeat process to see if another 100 rpms can be found
