My old Honda 9.9 4stroke ran perfectly until it was serviced recently. Since then it will only run with the choke on. Starts OK. After running for a while using choke there is gas/oil leaking our of one of the two vents under the engine casing. The oil seemed to have maybe been overfilled. What other problem could have been caused by the servicing? Any opinions/suggestions gratefully received.

The oil level was a little too high. The motor was taken to service attached to a boat (it is a kicker). Yes there was some exhaust smoke. Fuel should be OK ( bought after servicing). The oil leak only became apparent after about 2 hours use with the choke out. I started to see oil/gas in the water which was coming down the shaft from the posterior of the two ports under the engine casing. The motor continued to start and run OK provided that the choke was out, but I stopped using it to avoid contaminating the ocean.

Seems fuel related issue to work ok with choke pulled, was tank air vent opened when tested ? if so, check fuel filters inside tank and engine for obstructions, gas pump diaphragms for wear, balooned, cracked, was carb well assembled if dismantled for cleaning, test a new fuel line, sometimes does miracles with fuel related problems.

Why would any of these issues appear when the motor was working perfectly well before servicing, but developed all these problems immediately after servicing?
Thanks for your interest.

It's the million dollar question, take back to "mechanic" and let him know that have done a sloppy job on that engine. Engine gas hose's internal o'rings can fail any time specially if having a old engine. These o'rings are not available as spare parts, will need to remove them, specially outter bigger ones and buy them at a hardware store.
