New problem!

Well, I finally got my manual and got my carbs rebuilt! But when we went to start it, we realized the key had been left on! Maybe a couple of days, maybe a week! Not sure! Tried to jump it and a couple of times, I saw the starter start to spin just barely but did not engage the flywheel. Now where do I start? I got the charger on the battery. Battery read about 8 volts but shouldnt it have tried to start by jumping it? Just incase there is something going on screwy with the battery can I disconnect my positive wire from the battery and hook the jumper cable right to it? 95 Force 120HP. Anybody know what we may have damaged by leaving the key on?

Re: New problem!

If that battery has been drained for two weeks it isnt coming back. You will need to get a new one. The cells start decaying as soon as they are dead. After two weeks it is toast.

Thanks eurolarva, think we damaged anything in the electric system? Or just need the battery?

Re: New problem!

You CANNOT run your motor without having a battery connected to it. The battery is part of the voltage regulating system annd is needed to "absorb" andy excess voltage. Without a battery connected, you will cause damage to the system.

Also, the same goes for even momentarily connecting the battery cables backwards. This will fry your rectifier in just a couple seconds.
