Hi Everyone,
I just sold my baby (16.5 western / 60 hp johnson) but.......... I also just got home 10:30 pm PST with my new project, 1974 Starcraft 21' Super Sport! I'll be asking alot of questions and looking for sound advice. I noticed most of the people on this board are from the east coast, I live on the west coast next to the Sacramento River and most of my boating has been there (freshwater) but on nice days I have been on San Francisco Bay. I'm hoping with a much bigger boat I'll be able to go out the gate as in Golden Gate and maybe even chase some tuna! Anyway tomorrow I'll take some pics of the new boat (money pit) and see what you guys think, total investment so far about $400, $200 for the boat and trailer and $200 for wheels, tires and gas. Thanks, Pete

Pete welcome to iboats ( and after we see the pics ) :D the Starcraft club . That is the holy grail to several of us ( a 21' SS ) so you may have to watch for drool as we help you through the resto :D. There is a resto forum on the main board where you will find alot of us Starcrafters trying to get our boats back into the water :D.

Thanks Rick,
Here is a pic, the model name plate says 21 SUS I/O, I'm guessing that is the Supersport model? anyone? also on the outside of the transome there is a mercruiser 165hp placard/sticker, seems the pics I'm trying to upload are too big? 200k? well I'm not sure my camera takes them any smaller, I'll have to check

Yessireee that would be the Holy Grail :D. The only one that trumps it would be a 22' Super Sport :D. Good lookin boat now go start a resto thread over in the resto section and get to work :D Tin Stock is only 10 months away :D.

Great looking SS!!!!

Gotta ask ya though..do you have any experience chasing tuna out there beyond SF bay?? It gets crazy rough out there and I personally wouldnt go to the tuna grounds on a 21 footer..

I'm just looking out for the boat...lol

Pete, thats a good looking boat. the best thing about starcrafts is that the hulls are almost identical regardless of model or year, making it easier to get advice! almost all of us have a project going right now, we have taken over the restoration forum!

what are your plans for her in terms of what work needs to be done?

and NEVER post your address here... that boat will be gone in a heartbeat (and all i would have to do is come up with a reason to go to cali to get it---i mean help you work on it) :D

Re: New Project 1974 21' Super Sport

Ok here we go,
Let me address a few questions,

Kev, I have only been out for tuna once, 5 of us on a 25' Farralon, 40 something miles out near the 601, my first trip and we slaughtered them 41 albies and 1 bluefin, unbelieveable day. I'm in the coastside fishing club (online club) and it was set up through the clubs hitchhiking board, the capt. posted he needed a crew and he got one. Anyways the same club has a group of small boat owners that are organizing a tuna trip convoy.....stay within eyesight and radio contact for safety, I'd like to be a part of it, but it's a ways off for me, I might have to wait till next year....we'll see.

Andy, I'm still finding out what needs to be done to the boat, the previous owner had started a restoration and hadn't really completed much so, I am basically starting from scratch. The boat I just sold a 16.5 western with a 60 hp johnson, I cut the seats down about 4 inches, built a framework of 2x4's and decked it with 3/4" plywood. I built a steering console / tackle box holder, step, hatch covers and gas tank / battery covers from aluminum diamond plate. I got used office chairs removed the casters and used conduit straps to attach them to the deck, this was by far the most comfortable small boat to be in that I have ever been in. I wiil post some pics soon. So I will probably do something along those lines, serious fishing boat, maybe convert it to a center console??? I'm still in the dreaming/planning stages. I know i have to remove all the decking and work the previous owner has done and see if the engine 4.1 and outdrive are useable, they were laying in the boat when I got it along with a bunch of other crap....er stuff....

So thats the plan as of now, more planning....lol, pics and more soon, Pete

Sounds like you had a great tuna trip..My buddy had a 24 foot Farralon Pilot house..what a great HEAVY boat..We fished Santa Barbara to the Coronados with her...
I may try 40 plus miles with your 22 ftr...with the safety in numbers thing..You will need some decent fuel tanks!

Either way...
I look forward to seeing you turn this gem around..
